UAVSonde for NearSys Station, 23 June 2018

The UAVSonde was launched at 8:00 AM MDT this morning. According to the images returned, the visibility was at least 50 miles.

Mission NearSys 18H, a New Altitude Record

We'll the data is in. NearSys 18H flown with Mike Moody KD0MEQ reached an altitude of 124,798 feet. While that is not a record altitude for ARHAB, it is a record altitude for MOHAB and NearSys. Below is the graph of the right's altitudes.


The recovery site was the Swan Falls road south of Kuna, ID. And I mean it was the road. Since it was several hours before we tried to recover the payload, it had been found by a passing stranger and removed.

The near spacecraft carries two contact phone numbers and at this time, there have been no phone calls. Chase teams made up of S3 Systems, PENS, MOHAB, and NearSys thouroghly searched the area and found no signs of the payload.

Currently missing is a yellow parachute, two tracking modules ( KD0MEQ-11 and KD4STH-9), one near infrared camera, two visible light cameras, a Geiger counter, and a set of temperature sensors.

It's only been a few days and I am still hopeful we will receive a phone call from the party recovering the near spacecraft.

24 Hour Temperature and Relative Humidity for NearSys Station, 17 June 2018

It has been a rainy weekend that has grounded the UAV. So the only data i have to share thus week is the temperature and relative humidity.

You can see the temperature has varied by less than 10 degrees and a dip in the relative humidity between rain showers. These have been long and mild rains. Very much like Seattle, I think.

UV-B Photometer for NearSys Station, 10 June 2018

The UV-B photometer was taken outside and started late because of the risk of overnight rain. Like the visible light photometer, it also shows NearSys Station had partly cloudy skies.

I got a late start running the photometer because of the threat of rain. You can see the 10th was a day filled with partly cloudy skies.

Visibility Data for NearSys Station, 10 June 2018

The UAVSonde collected images at 7:15 AM This morning. Based on the images returned, the visibility is at least 30 miles but may not reach 50 miles due to clouds obscuring the Boise Mountains.

The noticeable tilt in the images looking north and south indicate the presence of a strong wind from the east.

I took,efforts to block the datalogger from being exposed to morning sunlight this time. The temperature didn't fluctuate strongly on the front porch, but the relative humidity did.
